Ecocardiograma Transtorácico

Es un examen que emplea ondas de ultrasonido de alta frecuencia, emitidas por una sonda de grabación (transductor) permitiendo ver al corazón en tiempo real con sus dimensiones y su estructura. Dicha imagen aparece en una pantalla de vídeo pudiéndose grabar en una USB o imprimirse, y no involucra exposición a la radiación.

El ecocardiograma permite visualizar muchas de las estructuras del corazón, aunque en ocasiones la imagen puede quedar dificultada por la interposición de las costillas, prótesis mamarias, tejidos corporales o grasa cutánea.
